Gondola serenade in Venice: price & how it works

Updated October 12, 2026

A gondola serenade in Venice usually costs about €30 to €60 per person on a shared boat, or several hundred euros for a private gondola with musicians (2026, approximate). The gondola itself costs €90 per boat by day (€110 after 19:00), and music is an extra priced by the operator.

How a serenade works

A serenade means a gondola ride with live music, usually a singer and an accordionist or guitarist. In a shared serenade, several gondolas travel together and the musicians sit on one boat or on a separate one nearby, so you hear the music as you glide along the canal. In a private serenade, the musicians are on board with you.

Unlike the gondola ride itself, whose tariff is set by the City of Venice, serenade prices are not part of the official tariff. Operators and musicians price them freely, so rates vary.

What it costs

Listings on major booking platforms show roughly these ranges in 2026. There is no official price list, so use them as a guide only:

  • Shared serenade (about 30 to 45 minutes): around €30 to €60 per person
  • Private gondola with musicians: several hundred euros for the boat, depending on duration
  • Standard gondola ride without music: €90 per boat by day, €110 per boat from 19:00 to 04:00

Splitting the cost with a group

A private gondola seats up to five, and the price is per boat. A private serenade at, say, €250 split among five people comes to around €50 each, similar to a shared serenade but on your own boat. Agree who pays what before you go.

On GondolaShare you can post a ride and find travellers to share a gondola, which makes a private option cheaper per person.

Tips before you book

Check how long the ride really lasts, whether the musicians are on your boat, and what the total price is including music. Reviews mention rides cut short, so ask for the duration in writing. Do not accept a price stated in a way that excludes the musicians.

Evening departures give the best atmosphere but add the €110 night rate on private bookings.

Questions

How much does a gondola serenade cost?

Roughly €30 to €60 per person for a shared one, and several hundred euros for a private boat with musicians. Prices are not officially regulated.

Are musicians on my gondola?

On shared serenades, usually not: they ride in one boat of the group. On private ones, they are on board.

Can I bring my own musicians?

Ask the gondolier before booking; a singer or musician is an extra priced separately.

How many people fit in a gondola?

Up to five passengers on a standard gondola.

For a special occasion, yes. Shared tickets or splitting a private boat keep the cost reasonable.
