Murano & Burano day trip from Venice: how to go

Updated October 12, 2026

Take vaporetto line 12 from Fondamente Nove to Murano and Burano. Burano is about 41 minutes away, Murano Faro about 9, and a single ticket costs €9.50 (valid 75 minutes) or €25 for a 24-hour pass (2026). The islands are not subject to the Venice access fee.

Getting there

Murano and Burano are served by ACTV water buses from Fondamente Nove, on the north side of Venice. Line 12 goes to Murano (Faro), then Mazzorbo and Burano. Torcello is served by line 12 only on request on a few early-morning runs; otherwise change at Burano onto line 9, the Burano-Torcello shuttle. Lines 4.1 and 4.2 also call at Murano from Fondamente Nove, the train station and Piazzale Roma.

On the timetable in force from 22 April 2026, line 12 leaves Fondamente Nove every 20 minutes during the day (every 30 minutes early in the morning, and less often in the evening, with the last departure at 22:25). Check the AVM Venezia app for the current timetable, especially in winter.

How long it takes

Murano Faro is a short trip, about 9 minutes from Fondamente Nove. Burano takes about 41 minutes, and Torcello is a short hop from Burano on line 9 (every 15 minutes on the last published timetable, from 2024, so check the current one). For all three islands plan a full day.

What it costs

A single vaporetto ticket is €9.50, valid for 75 minutes, which is not enough for a round trip with stops. A 24-hour pass at €25 covers the whole day and is usually better value if you visit the islands and also ride around Venice. Confirm prices with ACTV before buying.

Glass factory visits are usually free, but glassblowing demonstrations may be arranged through commission-based tours. Entry to the Glass Museum has a separate ticket.

Plan your day

  • Morning: Murano glass workshops and the Museo del Vetro
  • Midday: continue to Burano for lunch and its colourful houses and lace
  • Afternoon: Torcello for the cathedral, then return by vaporetto
  • Start early on weekends: the boats and Burano's streets are crowded in the afternoon

Tips

No access fee applies on Murano, Burano or Torcello, but if you also stroll the historic centre of Venice on a fee day, you may need a QR code. Carry cash for small shops and cafes, and watch for the last return boat in the evening.
