Venice access fee 2026: price, dates, who pays

Updated October 12, 2026

In 2026 the Venice access fee was €5 per person if paid by the fourth-to-last day before the visit, or €10 if paid later, on 60 selected days between 3 April and 26 July, from 08:30 to 16:00. It applies to day visitors to the historic centre; overnight guests, children under 14, residents of Venice and residents of the Veneto region are exempt. Dates for 2027 had not been announced at the time of writing (October 2026).

What the Venice access fee is

The contributo di accesso is a fee charged by the City of Venice to day visitors who enter the historic centre on selected days. It is separate from the hotel tourist tax and is meant to manage crowds on the busiest days.

It is not a ticket to a monument and it is not charged on every day of the year: only on a calendar of days published in advance. The city council approves the calendar each year, so always check the official portal (cda.ve.it) before a trip.

2026 dates, hours and price

In 2026 the fee applied on 60 days between 3 April and 26 July, mostly Friday to Sunday, with every day covered from 24 April to 3 May and from 1 to 7 June. In July it applied Friday to Sunday only. The fee was in force from 08:30 to 16:00; if you arrive after 16:00 you do not pay.

The price depends on when you book:

  • €5 per person if you pay up to the fourth-to-last day before your visit (for a Sunday visit, up to the previous Wednesday)
  • €10 per person if you pay later, from the third day before the visit, including the same day
  • The fee is per person, per active day, with no reductions

Who is exempt

Some groups pay nothing, and some of them still need to register to receive a free QR code:

  • Overnight guests in accommodation in the Municipality of Venice (they pay the tourist tax instead, and must register for a free exemption, valid from arrival day to departure day)
  • Children under 14 (show an ID document)
  • Residents of the Municipality of Venice or people born there (show ID), and students of schools and universities based in the historic centre or islands (student card)
  • Residents of the Veneto region (show ID; the City's page also mentions registering on the portal)
  • People with disabilities and a companion (European Disability Card)
  • Workers and commuters in the historic centre or islands, and households that pay IMU property tax in Venice (both must request an exemption)

How to pay and get your QR code

Pay online on the official portal (cda.ve.it), via the WhatsApp QR code, or at tobacconists (tabaccherie) displaying the Punto LIS logo. You receive a QR code by email: keep it on your phone or print it. Beware of look-alike sites that add extra charges, and use only the official portal.

The City says checks are carried out at the main access points of the city. Passing only through the Piazzale Roma, Santa Lucia station, Tronchetto and Maritime Station areas does not trigger the fee if you do not go further into the historic centre.

Fines and what is not covered

Visitors without a valid payment or exemption on an active day risk an administrative fine of €25 to €150, plus the €10 fee (City of Venice).

The fee covers the historic centre only. Murano, Burano, Torcello and the Lido are not included, so a trip limited to those islands does not need it.

Will there be a fee in 2027?

The 2026 trial is over and, per the official portal, the fee has not applied since 27 July 2026. Any application after 2026 is for the City's governing bodies to decide, and no 2027 calendar had been published when this guide was updated. Check cda.ve.it a few weeks before your trip.
